Global Natural History Day

CONNECTING STUDENTS TO THEIR WORLD THE SCIENCE OF THROUGH NATURAL HISTORY.

Global Natural History Day® (GNHD®) is an international education program designed to inspire elementary and middle school students’ interest in natural science and history. GNHD® is the new, younger sibling of the highly acclaimed National History Day competition in the U.S.

GHND® is based in Shanghai, China, and involves students throughout China and other countries.

This year-long program aims to teach natural history and science outside the classroom and to connect students with their peers around the world.

Kenneth E. Behring launched GNHD® in 2012 with 288 student teams in its first years. The program has continued to grow, with more students from a growing list of cities and countries participating each year. Since 2018, more than 20,000 students have participated in GNHD®.

At its core, GNHD® is supported by a strong educational foundation proven successful with Natural History Day. It engages students in real-world learning experiences that challenge and inspire them to get outdoors and explore their environment.

GNHD® is a rapidly growing initiative with

short-and long-term benefits for students that include:

Inciting curiosity, creativity, and hard work to tackle and solve big problems to help our fragile planet.

Providing opportunities to become more confident in their own knowledge and abilities.

Cultivating young leaders to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world.

Facilitating a forum for the exchange of ideas among students from a wide range of geo-social-economic backgrounds.

The People’s Republic of China is one of the world's four ancient civilizations with a history of 5,000 years. Modern China is the second largest economy in the world.

Shanghai is a world-famous financial center with GDP ranking first in China and second in Asian cities. It was ranked by Forbes in 2017 as “The TOP Best Commercial City Ranking in Mainland China”.

Global Natural History Day® is also a platform for global teenagers to understand modern China and to perceive Shanghai.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Kenneth E. Behring founded and supports the Behring Global Educational Foundation (BGEF) to identify, create, and oversee multiple initiatives with the common goal of improving the health, education, and overall well-being of people in the United States and around the world.
